I designed this patch to be used with the FX return of your amp, hence why the cab block is switched off, however you could turn it on again if you liked. As Johnny did, I’ve used a Roland Jazz Chorus amp (which is weird for me as I own a Jazz Chorus and designed this through its FX loop!). I’ve added a touch of compression to even the sound out. I’ve also used reverb, chorus and delay pedals to give it that ‘bigger’ sound that you hear clearly in first few seconds of the song. Such a great song! Pity it’s so hard to play! You could use this patch for lots of other Smiths songs as well.

HX Stomp

Guitarist, Johnny Marr, composed this especially for a BBC radio session with the DJ, John Peel. Marr recalled to Guitar Player in 1990: "I remember writing it, it was in preparation for a John Peel single. I wrote it the same night as 'Pretty Girls Make Graves' and 'Still Ill.'" I have got as close as I could with this one using a Strat bridge pickup on a 2011 USA American Standard. It's practically indistinguishable from the isolated tracked guitar through my monitors.
