This is my first contribution to Custom Tone. Hope you like it, but please let me know what you think. I've used the factory pre-set as a base starting point but changed quite a bit including placing spring reverb between the amp and cab, compressor, reverb and delay settings, EQ placement. Although it sounds simple, I think this is one of the hardest guitar tones to capture because unlike heavy distorted tones, with clean tones there's nowhere to hide and this is such a well known, very distinct and very idiosyncratic tone. There's a complex combination of ambience, sustain and 'snap/attack' to the tone Mark Knopfler created. I've designed the patch using headphones (I have Audio Technica ATH M50X). I've also set the patch up to use in a mix. On its own you might think it's a little reverb heavy. However, connect your Pod Go to your computer, and play over the album track and I hope you'll then find it to be a very good match - there's more reverb on there than you might think in the mix. Remember too that Mark Knopfler uses his fingers not a pick, so a lot of his tone and playing dynamics really is in his fingers. If you use a pick, try using a softer rather than harder one. For best results you need a traditional 3-single coil Strat using the in-between position 2 (bridge and middle pick-up). The patch is also good for a lot of the 1st Dire Straits album tracks. For 'Southbound again' you can really get that 'snap' and using the 4th position (neck and middle pick up) it's great for the warmer laid back feel of 'six blade knife'.
