HX Stomp
This is my version of a modulated "dotted eighth plus quarter note" delay, popularized by U2's The Edge, but used by tons of other artists afterwards. This a direct patch using the Helix cabs and a ribbon mic with proper low/hi cuts applied. The Edge's delay actually comes from a stereo setup with boosts and delay fed into the FRONT of an AC30 or two just on the edge of breakup. What I did was make a mono patch featuring Line 6's "Boost Comp" that gets pretty close using only the 6 blocks. To dial in volume and EQ, adjust the amp controls on the Essex A30. To add gain, I recommend using the "Drive" setting on the Boost Comp, or swtiching on the "Teemah!" overdrive pedal in front of the amp. To add clean sustain and tube like saturation, leave the Drive setting low, but increase the "Comp" setting on the Boost Comp. Reasonable minds can differ on the correct delay to use, but I am running two of the Mod/Chorus Echo blocks in parallel - on handling the dotted eight delay with chorus, and the other with the longer quarter note delays and a subtle vibrato to emulate the array of Memory Man, 2290, and rack units used by The Edge over the years. Feel free to adjust this as you see fit, but I worked with it quite a bit to balance the percussiveness of the dotted eighths with the swirling chorus/vibrato in the background that provides depth. Both delays are synced to the HX Stomp's BPM setting, so they should remain in sync with the tap tempo or BPM adjustments.
