For Where the Streets Have no Name by U2

U2 - Where the Streets have No Name. The patch is set up with three snapshots - intro, rhythm 1 and rhythm 2. They're all pretty similar - the only difference being the level on gain on the Teemah! block which is in front of an AC30. Intro - self explanatory. Rhythm 1 - I tend to kick in to this once the band comes in and you switch to the more rhythmic strumming pattern. I also use this for the chorus riff and outro. Rhythm 2 - I use this for verse 2 (i.e. after the first chorus) when Edge tends to play open chord picking patterns as opposed to the more rhythmic strumming of verse 1. If you look at live versions in particular, he definitely kicks in some extra gain for this. There is a volume block controlled by Exp1 which allows you to gradually blend in the guitar level as is done on the album version of the song - works well if you're using a backing track or organ for the intro. The key to this is the delay and reverb. I'm using a stereo Dynamic Hall reverb and a stereo Dual Delay on parallel paths. I tried a number of different combinations - many work, these are the ones I liked. For the delay, I have the mix set very high - essentially a full wet track which I'm blending with the dry signal using an A/B split on the parallel path. So if you you want to adjust the mix, adjust the split, not the pedal settings. The BPM is set to 125.5 and then the delay is set to 1/8 dotted. Being a dual delay you could set one to 1/4 dotted instead if you prefer. Personally I prefer them both being pretty tight like this. There are two paths - path A drops down to path B which has two separate outputs. One output goes to XLR with a dual cab block on it, the other goes to 1/4 out with no cab block, meaning you can run direct to FOH or FRFR, and also into an amp/power amp/power cab with IR etc. Purists beware - I'm using a Teemah! drive instead of a Scream 808 which I think Edge would typically use. I'm also using a combination of a 2x12 Silver Bell and a 4x12 Greenback. Feel free to sub in any cabs or IRs you like. The key to this tone is obviously going to be a strat set to position 4.
